Privacy Policy
Mile High Animation is a learn-to-animate app made for kids, families, and classrooms. We collect as little as we can, we never sell it, and we never show ads. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how a parent can see or delete it.
The short version
- You can use the free lessons and the sandbox without an account. Your drawings then stay on your device.
- Accounts belong to grown-ups. A parent, guardian, or teacher signs in with their own email; children use the app through that account. We do not ask children for their email.
- We keep your animations and lesson progress so you can pick up where you left off, on any device.
- Nothing a child makes is shown to anyone else unless a grown-up chooses to share it, and we review every shared animation before it appears. Shared work shows a nickname only.
- No ads, no tracking for advertising, no selling or renting information, and we do not use your information or artwork to train AI.
- A grown-up can delete the account and everything in it at any time, right in the app.
Children and parents
The app is made for children, including children under 13, so we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- Grown-up accounts. To create an account, a person must confirm they are 18 or older (a parent, guardian, or teacher setting it up for a child) or 13 or older using it themselves. A grown-up who lets a child under 13 use their account gives consent for us to collect the child's drawings and lesson progress as described here.
- No child email addresses. The account's email belongs to the grown-up. We use it to send sign-in codes and receipts, never marketing to children.
- Sharing needs a grown-up. To share to the community, a grown-up must be signed in and tick a permission box. Shared animations show a nickname, never a real full name, email, school, or location. We review each one and remove anything personal before it can appear. We don't show photos of people.
- Pictures. If someone uploads a picture to use as a background, it is saved inside that animation. Please use drawings or places, not photos of people. If one is shared, we don't approve it.
- Classes. When Mile High Animation teaches a class in person, we set up class accounts with permission from the school, the parent, or both. A class account holds only the student's first name and last initial, a parent's email if one was given at sign-up, a picture password (three pictures, stored scrambled), and their animations and lesson progress. Students sign in with a class code and their pictures, with no email of their own. Mile High Animation teachers can see each class student's progress and work, and may share progress summaries with that student's parent or school. Class accounts get full access until the class ends; parents can ask us to keep, hand over, or delete their child's class account at any time.
A parent or guardian can review their child's information, ask us to delete it, and refuse further collection at any time. See Your choices and rights.
What we collect
Without an account
Your drawings, lesson progress, and settings (like sound and the look of the app) are saved in your browser's storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes them.
With an account
- Account details: the grown-up's email address, an optional display name, the date the account was made and last signed in, and the date the grown-up agreed to these terms.
- Your work: animations (drawings, frames, timing, and the background chosen, including any uploaded picture) and lesson progress and scores.
- Community activity: animations shared for review, with the nickname and title given, and which shared animations the account gave hearts to.
- Purchases: what was bought, the amount, the date, and payment reference numbers from Stripe. We never see or store card numbers.
Automatically
Like any website, our hosting and database providers receive basic technical information when the app loads, such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of the request. It's used only to run the app and keep it secure (for example, to stop abuse). We don't use analytics, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels. Sign-in is remembered with a token stored in your browser.
If you turn on "Read tips aloud," your device's own built-in voice reads the lesson instructions.
Recorded sounds. In the sandbox, students can record their voice or sound effects to add to an animation. The browser asks for permission to use the microphone first. Recordings are saved only on that device. They are never uploaded to us, never saved to the account, and never included in animations shared to the community. A recording leaves the device only inside a video the family saves or sends themselves. Delete a recording in the sound picker under "My sounds," or by clearing the browser's data for this site.
How we use it
- To run the app: save and load your work, remember lesson progress, and sign you in.
- To unlock what you've paid for.
- To show approved community animations in the app, and, with the grown-up's permission given when sharing, in Mile High Animation's own social media posts and highlight videos (nickname only).
- To answer your questions and keep the app safe and working.
We do not use children's information for advertising, profiling, or anything that isn't part of running the app.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent information. We only share it with the companies that run parts of the app for us, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase stores accounts, animations, progress, and community posts, and handles sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the app's web pages.
- Stripe processes payments. Stripe receives the grown-up's email and payment details directly.
- Google delivers our sign-in code emails (through Gmail) and the app's fonts (Google Fonts).
- jsDelivr delivers a code library the app uses, and Wix hosts our logo image and our main website.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of children or others.
How long we keep it
- Animations and lesson progress: while the account exists, until you delete them or the account.
- Deleted accounts: everything in the account (animations, progress, community posts, hearts, and purchase records in our database) is deleted right away. Copies in our database provider's backups are gone within 30 days. Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires.
- Animations shared for review but not approved: deleted 30 days after we review them.
- Approved community animations: shown until the grown-up asks us to remove them or deletes the account. Highlight videos we've already posted may stay on social media; ask us and we'll take down any that include your child's work.
- Unused free accounts: if a free account hasn't signed in for 2 years, we delete it and everything in it. Paid accounts are kept so you don't lose what you bought, until you delete them.
- Technical logs kept by our providers are deleted on their schedules, generally within a few weeks.
Your choices and rights
- See it: everything saved to an account is visible in the app when you're signed in.
- Delete it: delete single animations from the home screen, or the whole account in Settings → Account → Delete my account.
- Remove a shared animation, or refuse further collection: email us and we'll do it.
- Parents of children under 13 can ask us to review or delete their child's information, or stop collecting it, at any time, by emailing us. We'll confirm we're talking to the right grown-up before we change anything.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database rules let each account read and change only its own work; community posts stay hidden until we approve them; and payment secrets are kept on our servers, never in the app. No system is perfect, so if we ever learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you.
Changes
If we change how we handle information in a way that matters, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and ask grown-ups to agree again before collecting anything new from children.
